Gigolo Aunts adopted the name they are still known by today in 1986, as a tribute to Syd Barrett. They quickly became a sensation, especially for their powerful live performances, and within just two years, they were signed by Coyote Records, the Hoboken label home to The Feelies and Yo La Tengo. Their first album, titled “Everybody Happy,” produced by Rob Norris, a member of The Bongos, Squeeze, and The Velvet Underground, is now a classic, followed by other celebrated albums such as “Flippin’ Out” and “Minor Chords and Major Themes.” In Spain, their appearance at FIB in 1999 and their cover of Nacha Pop’s “Chica de Ayer” made them tremendously popular among the indie fandom. Their concert at Visor Fest, part of a farewell tour where a special deluxe edition of the aforementioned “Minor Chords and Major Themes” with unreleased tracks will be available only during the tour, will mark their departure from the stage.
